NORTHBOROUGH-Vivian Mildred (Knipe) Richie of Northborough, MA, and Hobe Sound, FL, 80, passed away Friday, April 6, 2012, at St. Vincent Hospital.
Vivian leaves behind her loving husband of 60 years, Richard C. Richie; her son, Dr. Peter J. Richie and his wife Jean; six grandchildren: Dr. Jessica M. Remington and her husband Steven, Matthew C. Richie, Aaron A. Richie and his wife Elizabeth, Nathaniel J. Richie, Samuel P. Richie, and Joshua S. Richie; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her brother, Norman E. Knipe, and her sister, Janice MacAlister. She was predeceased by her brother, James Knipe.
Vivian was born in Worcester, MA, the daughter of Norman C. and Ruby (White) Knipe. Vivian was an active, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an avid bicyclist and annually completed a 60 mile trek with her husband. She climbed Mount Monadnock with her grandchildren annually into her 60s despite losing a lung to tuberculous bronchiectasis as a teenager. Her strength and determination after the amputation of her leg at 79 were a testament to her love of life and family. Her memory will be treasured by those who loved her.
Visitation for Vivian will be Monday, April 9th from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, with her funeral service to be held at 1:00 PM at FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston St., W. Boylston.
